BRYANÂ – It was sometimes wild, sometimes explosive, always entertaining, but in the end a disappointing night at Merrill Green Stadium Friday (10/5) as the Bryan Vikings lost their homecoming football game to the Conroe Tigers 42-35.
It was a real break-through night for the Bryan offense as the Vikings almost equaled their entire season scoring total in one night. It was also a break-through night as Bobby Johnson racked up 210 yards on 18 carries, including an electrifying 76 yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter. Chris Johnson also threw for 212 yards and 1 touchdown, a 43 yard strike to V.J. Banks in the 3rd quarter.
The Vikings also scored on a 4 yard Damian Wilson run, a 1 yard quarterback sneak by Chris Johnson, and an 11 yard run by Bobby Johnson.
It wasn’t that Conroe had one more defensive stop than the Vikings it was that Bryan stopped themselves with mistakes and penalties in the 2nd half.
But, it was still a good outing for the Vikings with 515 yards of total offense and 24 first downs which is a vast improvement from earlier in the season.
The Vikings are now 2-4 on the season and 1-1 in District 14-5A. Next week Bryan takes on A&M Consolidated in the Crosstown Showdown game at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field. The kick-off is at 7:30 pm with the broadcast beginning at 7 pm with Keith Kane and Tap Bentz.
