Bryan vs. Conroe: Preview

STORY BY: KEITH KANE

Bryan’s 20-7 road win over Conroe Oak Ridge last week was “exactly what the doctor ordered” according to Vikings Head Coach Ross Rogers.  “We’ve had a good week of practice,” despite Homecoming distractions says Rogers.  “In fact, it’s been our best week and we just hope that will equate into a smooth Friday night with some points because we’re going to have to have some points because Conroe is going to score some.”

This Friday (10/5), the Vikings host the 1-4 Conroe Tigers, 56-28 losers last week to The Woodlands.  And, according to Rogers, those were 28 honest points, not points gifted Conroe by The Woodlands. Rogers says the Tigers have a good quarterback, Stedman Bell, who’s “as dangerous as we’re going to see all year.”  In fact,Rogers compares Bell to Baylor-bound Vikings quarterback Chris Johnson.  “He’ll take off at the line of scrimmage,” says Rogers.  “And, right when you think he’s running, he’ll stop and throw it downfield or across the field.”  The Tigers will also run the ball using Bell, Larry Day and Devondric Smith.

Defensively,Conroe will line up in an Odd 5-0 front with a four-spoke secondary. Rogers says the Tigers have a good defensive scheme, “they just have not settled in on their front.”

Rogers says this will be another big game for the Vikings.  “Homecoming will be important,” says Rogers.  “We’ve not played well at home. That’s another thing.  Our two games have not been stellar games for us and we want to make sure to show the home folks there’s a reason to come out and watch us.”

The Bryan Vikings and Conroe Tigers kick off Friday at 7:30 pm.  The game will be broadcast on 1150 The Zone beginning at 7 pm withKeith Kane and Tap Bentz as the broadcast team.
