Bryan at Magnolia: Wrap-Up

STORY BY: KEITH KANE

– MAGNOLIA – Bryan Coach Ross Rogers said last week that the Vikings players are beginning to buy into the offensive and defensive philosophy he is bringing to the program and it showed Friday (9/7) night.

The Vikings racked up 394 total yards of offense on the way to a 19 to 7 win over Magnolia.  The Vikings has three scoring opportunities in the first quarter before they final broke through in the second period to break a scoreless tie.  Following an interception returned to the 1 yard line, Chris Johnson ran the ball in for a 6 to nothing lead.  The Vikings would make in 12 to nothing on the next drive following another interception when Bobby Johnson would score from 9 yards out.

After the halftime break, Magnolia would get a big kickoff return to begin at the Bryan 29 yard line and would score on a 2 yard run by Greg Solomon.  The Bulldogs would force a Vikings punt and take over at their own 33 yard line where they would march down the field on run after run moving the chains until they had a first and goal from the 9 yard line.  But, there the Vikings defense stiffened and force a 4th down where Shyerome Harris would be stuffed at the 1 yard line.

In the 4th quarter, the Vikings would put together their best offensive series of the season consistently moving the chains and driving a stake through the hearts of the Bulldog faithful with a 12 yard scoring pass from Chris Johnson to V-J Banks with 3:20 left in the game.

Chris Johnson would complete 21 of 34 passes for 284 yards in the game and ran the ball for critical 1st downs during the Vikings final scoring drive.  Bobby Johnson would finish with 60 yards on 16 carries.

Next week, the Vikings travel to Belton to play one of their former district rivals.  The game will be broadcast on The Zone Friday night beginning at 7 pm.
