Bryan at A&M Consolidated: Wrap-Up

STORY BY: KEITH KANE

COLLEGE STATION – The Bryan Vikings rolled the dice early Friday (10/12) night against the A&M Consolidated Tigers in the Silver Anniversary Crosstown Showdown game and came up snake eyes as they lost the rivalry tilt 54 to 7.

The Vikings took the opening kick-off and on the very first play hit a jet screen for 60 yards to Cooper Powell.  But, miscues forced a fourth down situation and instead of going for three-points, the Vikings went for the first down and didn’t make it.

On their second possession,Bryan’s Bobby Johnson was stripped of the ball at the Vikings’ 10 yard line giving A&M Consolidated a short field.  Three plays later, the Tigers scored and it seemed like the floodgates opened.  Momentum switched to the A&M Consolidated sidelines and the Tigers scored 40 points before the Vikings could get on the scoreboard.  In all, the Vikings would go on fourth down four times during the game and would not make first down once in that situation.

The lone Bryan touchdown was a Bobby Johnson 12 yard run that capped off a good looking 83 yard drive.

Chris Johnson finished the night with 174 yards passing on 10 completions.  Bobby Johnson just missed a 100 yard game with 99 yards on 22 carries.

Next week the Vikings will host District 14-5A front-runnerLufkinfor a 7:30 pm game at Merrill Green Stadium.  The game will be broadcast on 1150 The Zone with Keith Kane and Ronnie Jackson on the broadcast.
