A&M Consolidated vs. Klein Collins: Preview

STORY BY: MIKE WRIGHT

The A&M Consolidated Tigers wrapped up the regular season in week 9 with a win over Conroe, capping off an 8-2 run and a tie for the District Title in 14-5A.  As a result of a scoring tie breaker system, Consolidated advances as the top team in Division II of the district.  The Tigers face Klein in round one, the 3rd place team in district 13-5A.  The Bearkats also had a bye week in week 10 of the season, but wrapped up a play-off spot the previous week with a win over Klein Collins.  Klein ended the season with a 6-4 record.  The Tigers and Bearkats play at 7:30pm Friday night at Woodforest Stadium in The Woodlands.

Consolidated is second in total offense in District 14-5A as they prepare for their playoff return.  They are led by Sr. RB Xavier Jones, less than 30-yards away from a 1000-yard season.  Kicker Dillon Moore continues to lead all kickers in scoring in 14-5A, while back-up QB Weston Garner has been lethal through the air, getting much support from a variety of receivers.  Garner was slated to be the Tigers’ starting QB this season until an injury in a pre-season scrimmage.  Jaylon Cheshire left the Bryan game with a leg injury.  The transition to Garner has exemplified the depth of this year’s Tiger team.  Defensively, Consolidated is led by Sr. Kyle Chism, Jimmy Gilbert and Eric Yates.

Consolidated is designated as the visiting team for this first round playoff game.  If the Tigers advance, they will play the winner of Austin Westlake and Pflugerville Henderson.  Game night coverage begins at 7:00pm with Coach David Raffield, kick-off at 7:30pm on WTAW.
