A&M Consolidated at Conroe: Preview

STORY BY: MIKE WRIGHT

The Consolidated Tigers are on the road for their regular season finale Friday night to take on the Conroe Tigers.  Kick-off is at 7:30 at Buddy Morehead Stadium in Conroe.  Consolidated is looking to secure at least a share of the district title.  The Tigers are coming off a win over Oak Ridge 28-7 at Tigerland Stadium last Friday.  Conroe was open.  Consolidated will be open on week 10 of the season before entering playoffs November 16th.

The Tigers plan to use their strong offensive attack against a Conroe Defense that allows over 412 yards per game.  Consol is averaging 433 yards per game behind QB Weston Garner who replaced Jaylon Cheshire following an injury during the Bryan game.  Xavier Jones is on track to become a 1000 yard rusher, needing 77-yards against Conroe to cross that benchmark.

A win over Conroe would complete the Tiger’s regular season at 8-2 for the third time in 10-years.  The Tiger’s turned in 8-2 performances in 2002 and 2005, followed by deep playoff runs.  The Tigers were 8-1-1 in 2006, the game with Westlake declared a tie due to a student medical condition, and were 9-1 in regular season play in 2010.

Game night coverage begins at 7:00 with a visit from Coach David Raffield, kick-off is at 7:30.
