CYPRESS- The A&M Consolidated Tigers dropped to 0-2 Friday night at the Berry Center in Cypress-Fairbanks, but showed vast offensive improvement over the 17-9 loss to Klein Oak a week ago. This week’s loss came at the hands of Cypress Woods of District 13-5A.
WILLIS — One half yard. That is all that stood betweenthe Navasota Rattlers and the tying touchdown Friday night. With the Rattlerstrailing the Willis Wildkats and a mere 4 seconds left on the clock, Navasotafaced a first-and-goal from the Willis’ 2-yard line.
The Rattlers, who moved to the 2 with a pair of passes toSolomon McGinty and a pass interference call, turned to tailback Howard Horn totry and push it in from there.
BRYAN- Friday night’s matchup between the Rudder Rangers and Leander Rouse Raiders was a nail-biter that featured constant lead changes and exciting plays, resulting in a 14-14 tie.
But fans left the stands silently not because of the tie, but because of what caused the game to suddenly end.
By the time the Bryan Vikings kick off the 2011 varsity football season, they will be two games behind most of their peers.
Head coach Bob Bellard, however, is quick to point out they will make up the difference quickly, playing three games in 12 days.
The Vikings (6-5 in 2010) begin the 2011 campaign Saturday night in League City, taking on the Clear Springs (0-1).
A little confidence can go a long way.
The Rudder Rangers will have a tough test on Friday at Merrill Green Stadium, as they welcome the Leander Rouse Raiders to Bryan.
Looking at last year’s match up wouldn’t indicate something for the Rangers to be worried about – they trounced the Raiders by a five touchdown victory.
After A&M Consolidated lost its season opener last Friday 17-9 to Klein Oak, the Tigers reported in Saturday with an attitude of wanting to correct mistakes, get better, put the loss behind them and make amends this Friday night on their first road trip – a 7 o’clock engagement at Cypress Woods.
