THE WOODLANDS — The Consolidated Tigers finally came to life midway into the second quarter Thursday night coming back from a 14-0 deficit to tie College Park by halftime. The teams would still be tied at the end of regulation before A&M Consolidated made a key stop in the first overtime to seal the win, 35-28. The Tigers are now 3-1 in District play and 6-2 overall while the Cavs drop to 1-2 in district, 4-3 overall. The Tigers scored first in overtime on a 17-yard run by Xavier Jones. College Park was unable to move the ball on their OT possession. Jimmy Gilbert’s sack of Cavalier QB Brett Buckley on fourth down ensured the win for Consol.
Consol took their first lead of the night in the 3rd quarter, maintaining the lead until less than a minute remained in regulation with College Park engineered an impressive drive to tie the game. Thursday’s overtime game was Consol’s second in four weeks, falling to Lufkin in a four-OT game to open district.
The Tigers return home Friday night to host Oak Ridge. Game time is 7:30 at Tigerland Stadium.
